Random Paragraph Daily: Visual Musings on Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird." 2012

Random Paragraph Daily is a series produced for the 4th annual 50/50 Show at the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica, CA. Selected artists produced 50 artworks in 50 days on their proposed theme.. Mine was: "Random Paragraph Daily: Visual Musings on Harper Lee's 'To Kill A Mockingbird.'"

My process was to open the novel each day, choose a passage and make an artwork that reflected the meaning and/or feeling of it. I gathered digital images and composited them in Adobe Photoshop, then printed each one on green masking paper (the type found at home improvement stores) that had been prepared with various digital media coatings. The works were mounted on 6" x 6" cradled boards and waxed.

I decided early on to strictly follow this process and not shy away from any of the novel's passages that could be construed as contentious and felt uncomfortable to me — as well as some viewers.
